오늘의 주제가 이민자의 권익 옹호 운동에 관한 이야기인 만큼 우리가 이민자의 들의 현황을 이야기 할 때 이야기 할 때 다양한 이슈들이 존재할 텐데 오늘 다루어질 부분은 어떤 것일까요?
서류가 미비한 이민자 (undocumented immigrants)라고 표현을 하셨는데 소위 말해서 “불법 체류자 (Illegal immigrants)”라고 표현하기도 하잖아요. 왜 서류미비자라는 표현을 쓰기로 결정했는지 청취자 분들을 위해서 설명을 좀 해 주세요.
트럼프 정권 때 이민자들의 고충이 더 커졌고, 특히 코로나를 겪으면서 그 현상은 더욱 심해졌다고 생각해요. 지금 현정부에서는 미국 이민 정책에 대해 어떤 다른 움직임들이 있나요?
한국 사회도 점점 이민자들이 많아지고 다문화 국가에 대한 이야기도 나오고 우후죽순처럼 이민 정책도 나오고 있긴 합니다만 상황은 많이 열악합니다. 미국내에 이민자 권익 옹호 운동이 한국 사회와 교회에는 어떤 메시지(신학적 메시지 포함)를 줄 수 있다고 생각하세요?
지금까지 교회는 특히 저희 교단인 PCUSA는 어떤 식으로 이민자 옹호 운동에 참여하고 있나요? 그리고 앞으로는 어떤 방식으로 어떤 이민자 권익 옹호 운동에 일조할 수 있을까요?
